If youβre of a certain mind, thereβs some schadenfreude to be had in the thought that a lot of people who were bullish on what Trump would do for crypto, and voted for him for that really shortsighted and self-interested reason, were among the rekt.
"
Schadenfreude is watered-down sadism. Feeling good from someone else feeling bad. It's not vindication. It's not the satisfaction when justice puts away bad actors and meritocracy rewards good actors. It's pretty incomparable to ethical living, where we should hope for good things for all people, and simply that things that prevent that should stop.
But it also reveals something. Crypto lobbyists are specifically to blame and they courted Republicans more. Their excuse is probably all lobbyists work for psychopathic corporations (crypto lobbyists being no exception, they work for centralized exchanges, which are corporations). Lobbyists do the corporation's bidding, so they at least have Nuremberg defense. Which isn't much defense at all. But also false.
Let's say corporations, if anything, want profits at any costs. Well, long term or short term? Does Coinbase want to make more this quarter? This year? Forever? Let's say forever. Suddenly, decisions need to incorporate solutions for the heat death of the universe. Impossible. Thus, impossible to guess what is best for the corporation. Thus, impossible to know if any decision made by someone working for a corporation is in the interest of the corporation. This invites the opportunity for someone supposedly working in the interest of the corporation to instead work in the interest of themselves. Be it a CEO ordering the lobbyist, or the lobbyist themselves in how they lobby.
None of these people are working in the general interest of "crypto" as some quasi entity that should exist for all time. No more than anyone was killing in the interest of a region one might draw on a map and supposedly call a βliving space.β

So, to paraphrase The Dead Kennedys:
Crypto lobbyists.
Crypto lobbyists.
Crypto lobbyists.
Fuck off.
